Fake Star
2018
Julius von Bismarck, Benjamin Maus, Richard Wilhelmer
The Fake Star artistic intervention creates the illusion of an additional star in the night sky. It consists of a fully-autonomous kite which, depending on the available wind, starts and lands from a computer-controlled ground station.
The Fake Star artistic intervention explores the effects of the “post-fact” period and our collective perception of truth in a poetic way. Creating the illusion of an additional star in the night sky automatically questions the authenticity of every single true star.
The installation consists of a fully-autonomous kite which, depending on the available wind, starts and lands from a computer-controlled ground station. It rises about 100 meters high and carries small turbine generators powering a LED point light.
